Montpellier Mayor Cancels Wedding After Dangerous Highway Stunts

The mayor of Montpellier canceled the celebration of a wedding on Saturday due to multiple traffic violations on the A709 motorway and at the roundabout of the Zénith.
"Part of the procession deliberately committed multiple traffic violations with quads and motorcycles, endangering the safety of others," explains Michaël Delafosse, mayor of Montpellier, on X, adding that complaints will be filed. "I support the decision of the mayor of Montpellier who canceled this wedding following the disturbances to public order. I have requested the assistance of the national police," writes the prefect of Hérault on the same social network. For him, "these behaviors that harm others are unacceptable".
This is not the first time that Michaël Delafosse has canceled a wedding in his city due to an urban rodeo and the use of fireworks in the procession. He had already made a similar decision in October 2023. On BFMTV, he had explained: "When the future spouses come to the town hall for a wedding, they must sign a charter that sets out a number of rules, before and during the ceremony".
"When the wedding procession arrives, it must respect a certain number of measures, elementary of the Highway Code, such as not committing excesses. If they are not respected, the town hall must make a decision," the elected official had added.
