Controversial Marriage: 76-Year-Old Far-Right Activist Weds Undocumented Immigrant

Anne Trontin, mayor of Montpont-en-Bresse, in Saône-et-Loire, had to record the marriage of a septuagenarian French woman, a militant of the Rassemblement national (RN), with a Tunisian undocumented immigrant.
While they were supposed to get married last October, Danielle, a 76-year-old French woman, who is also an RN activist, and Fadi, a 30-year-old Tunisian undocumented worker, finally got married for life on Saturday, in Montpont-en-Bresse, in Saône-et-Loire. Previously, the mayor of the city had opposed their union on the grounds that it was not a "love marriage" because of their large age difference and the fiancé’s administrative situation.
Danielle tried to convince the non-partisan mayor that it was not a "white marriage". The two lovebirds met on social networks in 2019. They see each other for the first time, two years later. "It was an incredible love at first sight," says the 76-year-old retiree on local television. According to her explanations, her wish is to be with Fadi. "Since I’m older and have fewer years to live, I wanted to be with him. Every day without him is a lost day," she confides.
Before her wedding, Danielle was angry with the town hall of her city. "You have caused me a lot of harm, you have ruined my happiness, my life, the most beautiful day of my life," she wrote to the mayor. The latter first seized the public prosecutor, stating that she had to record this union "against her will". The latter found no objection to it. Anne Trontin celebrated the wedding, but the ceremony took place in a tense atmosphere, reports France 3. It was attended by a "support" committee for the mayor, including the deputy of the 4th constituency of the department, Éric Michoux (UDR).
