Mohamed Salah at the heart of a scandal due to a "Christmas photo

It has become an annual ritual that inflames social networks. Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian star currently in Morocco for the 2025 CAN, finds himself once again at the heart of a heated controversy after sharing a photo of a Christmas celebration.

In the photo, the Liverpool player does not pose himself, but reveals his two daughters, Makka (11 years old) and Kayan (5 years old), all smiles in front of a decorated Christmas tree. A simple message accompanies the image: "#MerryChristmas". That was enough to provoke a barrage of criticism from some of his fans.

The virulent reactions did not take long to come. Many Internet users accuse the "Egyptian King" of betraying his religious values. "I thought you wouldn’t celebrate this feast, which is forbidden in our faith," indignantly exclaims a subscriber. Another, claiming to be a long-time fan, expresses his disappointment: "You broke my heart. If you don’t delete this tweet, I won’t follow you anymore. It’s a major sin."

Some comments go even further, reminding the star of his responsibility as an icon: "Celebrity is a responsibility... Fear Allah, for death is closer than likes."

However, amidst this flood of criticism, Salah has received massive support. Many praise his openness and tolerance, seeing in this gesture a lesson in humanity that transcends religious divides. "Respect is respect... humanity comes first," writes an Internet user, while another admires his ability to "ignore hatred to please his children."

Far from his Christmas tree, Mohamed Salah spent his Christmas Day on the training grounds in Morocco. After offering the victory to the Pharaohs against Zimbabwe last Monday, the Egyptian captain is now focusing on the clash against South Africa on Friday, with the hope of breaking the curse and finally lifting the continental trophy.
