Controversy with Moroccan supporters: the coach of Egypt explains himself
The coach of the Pharaohs wanted to set the record straight. Accused by some rumors of having provoked the Moroccan supporters during the match against Benin, Hossam Hassan brushed aside these allegations, preferring to declare his love for the "exceptional" organization of the Kingdom.
There is no room for misunderstanding between Egypt and Morocco. This is the message that Hossam Hassan wanted to convey. The Egyptian coach found himself at the heart of a small media storm after a gesture made during the match against Benin. Some saw it as a provocation towards the local public; he assures that it was not the case.
"It was just a spontaneous reaction under pressure, after the important goal of Mohamed Salah," he justified. His gesture towards the stands meant only one thing: Egypt’s determination to go all the way. "Some are trying to create unnecessary interpretations," he regretted, deploring an attempt at artificial controversy.
"If I had to choose a country, it would be Morocco"
Far from the image of a provocateur that some wanted to stick to him, the former legendary striker was full of praise for the host country. For him, Morocco offers "one of the best organizations in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations".
He went even further in his mark of respect: "If I had the right to choose the host country, I would have chosen Morocco without hesitation." He praised the quality of the infrastructure and the "special flavor" of the tournament on Moroccan soil.
Mutual support
Hossam Hassan also recalled the strength of the ties between the two nations. He remembered his fervent support for the Atlas Lions during the last World Cup and pointed out that in return, the Moroccan public was "envied" by the other delegations for their massive support for the Pharaohs during this CAN.
For the Egyptian coach, football must remain a bridge between peoples. A clear clarification to dispel tensions before the decisive deadlines.
