Mohamed Ihattaren moved to tears for his return to PSV
The Dutch striker of Moroccan origin Mohamed Ihattaren expressed his gratitude to the public of PSV Eindhoven, his former club, who applauded him during the match against Fortuna Sittard (5-2), his current club.
Substituted in the 84th minute, Ihattaren left the pitch to loud applause from the PSV crowd. "I’m very happy to be back at the Philips Stadion, it’s wonderful," Ihattaren told ESPN. And he added: "I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time. It was a different week from the others, also for my family. I had goosebumps, so many memories came back to me. I’ve had a lot of great moments here."
The striker of Moroccan origin said his feelings were mixed during this match. "Of course, you want to play such a match, but it’s a mixed feeling: you want to get points with Fortuna, without hurting your former club. PSV holds a special place in my heart."
The young player also commented on the circumstances of his departure from Eindhoven for Juventus in 2021. "If it had been up to me, I would have stayed here much longer. But at that time, the situation was not the best for me and I had to choose for myself," he explained.
Mo Ihattaren was promised a bright future at PSV, but went through a bad patch after the death of his father. After a long absence from the pitch, he successively joined Juventus, Sampdoria, Ajax, Slavia Prague and RKC Waalwijk, before landing this summer at Fortuna Sittard. This season, he has already scored three goals and provided two assists.
