Mocro Maffia Kingpin's Nephew Slips Through Justice's Fingers

Firass T., nephew of drug baron Ridouan Taghi, was released by the Spanish police, even though he was the subject of an extradition procedure to the Netherlands. The Dutch Public Prosecution Service, which discovered this unexpected release this week, has opened an investigation to understand what could have "gone wrong" in the procedure.

24-year-old Firass T. had been arrested last June in Tarifa, in southern Spain, on the basis of a European arrest warrant. He is suspected of participating in a vast drug trafficking network, notably involved in the importation of hundreds of kilos of cocaine through the port of Antwerp and the sale of synthetic drugs.

The suspect is not unknown to the police. His name had already appeared in alleged projects aimed at organizing the escape of his uncle, Ridouan Taghi, the main defendant in the Marengo trial and the head of the Mocro Maffia. An investigation into him and his brother had been launched on this subject as early as 2020 based on information from the criminal environment.

Following this release, Firass T. is now the subject of an international alert. Meanwhile, the investigation in the Netherlands continues: two other suspects from the same network are due to appear in court next week, and an accomplice has already been sentenced in July to ten years in prison as part of this case.
