Missing Teen Found After 2 Years: Wissem Abdelaoui Discovered in Prostitution Sting

Wissem Abdelaoui, the 16-year-old girl who went missing on July 31, 2019, was finally found "safe and sound on the night of May 15" in Ivry-sur-Seine. Her parents still have no answers about the circumstances of her disappearance.

It took her parents conducting an investigation on social media and specialized prostitution sites for Wissem to be found. Her uncle, whom she did not know, posed as a client, and they had arranged to meet at a hotel in Ivry-sur-Seine. Upon arriving at the location, Wissem "found herself face to face with this uncle and her father," reports Le Parisien. The latter took her to the Ivry-sur-Seine police station. Questioned overnight from Friday to Saturday, she allegedly admitted to having prostituted herself of her own free will since her disappearance.

Once the hearing was over, the Ivry-sur-Seine (Val-de-Marne) police officers dropped the now adult teenager off at a location she had indicated. Her parents are trying to understand what happened since July 31, 2019. "She seems to be under influence, under constraint, has lost her discernment faculties and it is regrettable that the police were able to let this young girl go without giving any explanation to her family," says Arash Derambrash, the lawyer for the young woman’s parents. He stated that his clients still have no answers about the circumstances of Wissem’s disappearance, no answers about the failure of this investigation, and no answers about the silence of the justice system.

"The management of this case is a judicial fiasco. My clients are awaiting explanations," the lawyer continues. For its part, the Évry prosecutor’s office says it will consider the next steps when it has taken note of the young woman’s hearing.
