Missing Moroccan Man in Spain: Family Seeks Answers 4 Years After Disappearance

Saïd Hourmati, 33, who has been living in Spain since 2008, disappeared on June 15, 2019 in Palma de Mallorca, two months before his wedding. He would have had a relationship with a married woman whose husband had threatened to kill him. The National Police continue to investigate this "disturbing" disappearance.
Of Moroccan origin, Saïd disappeared as he was leaving work on June 15, 2019. He had an affair with the owner of the farm where he worked, who had given him a Mercedes. A gesture that provoked the anger of the latter’s husband, who had threatened him with death several times. Saïd had worked for three years on the farm, feeding the livestock, harvesting almonds and taking care of the mother of the alleged mistress, who was of a certain age.
Since May 2019, he had been working as a mason. He has no car, so "his boss, as always, picks him up and brings him back," his sister Bouchra tells Caso Abierto, specifying that on that day, he had returned around 6:30 pm. "I’ll wait for my sister at the bar, she’s not back yet. See you on Monday," he had told his boss. But Saïd never came back. Bouchra says she tried to reach him on his phone. To no avail. At night, Saïd’s phone was off. Worried, the young man’s sister informed the police of his disappearance, specifying to the agents that he was to get married in a month.
Since the day of his disappearance, his Moroccan fiancée has also been without news of him. The police believe he may have changed his mind about the wedding and fled. At the end of August, Bouchra found her brother’s passport while cleaning. For her, "it was clear that he had not been able to travel." By digging a little into Saïd’s past, his family discovered the threats he was facing and his relationship with the farm owner. The latter’s husband is said to have discovered his infidelity with Saïd and the Mercedes he had given him.
The investigators discovered that one day, the husband had threatened Saïd on the farm with a hunting rifle, swearing that he would kill him sooner or later, and hurling racist insults like: "Damn Moor, you’re worth nothing, I’m Majorcan and these are my lands. I’m counting to 5 and if you don’t get out, I’ll kill you!" The agents also discovered that the farm owner had a long telephone conversation with Saïd on the day of his disappearance, from 8:39 p.m. to 10:52 p.m. The woman admitted to having had a relationship with Saïd. Her husband, for his part, denied having threatened the Moroccan. The case was closed.
