Miss Universe 2016 Ex-Boyfriend Breaks Silence on High-Profile Breakup

More than a year later, Moroccan businessman Diego El Glaoui shares rare insights about his breakup with Iris Mittenaere, Miss France 2016 and Miss Universe 2016.

As rumors about Iris Mittenaere’s infidelity surface and blogger Aqababe promised to reveal everything, Diego El Glaoui hastens to make rare confessions. "I never wanted the truth to be made public and I never thought I would have to mention it here. I chose silence out of modesty, out of respect for our story, out of pride too, but also to protect her image, despite the injustice and pain I went through," Diego El Glaoui begins in a long message shared on Instagram. He reveals that he discovered he had been cheated on shortly after their engagement and for several months. Their engagement dates back to 2022. "And despite this, I chose to forgive, to fight for our promise of eternal commitment, to give our relationship another chance, and not to expose her."

The entrepreneur and influencer revisits certain sequences from the documentary series Influence(s) that had caused reactions. At the time, he had faced criticism from some viewers. They had accused him of disrespecting his then-partner. "What wasn’t seen is that I already knew and that I was struggling with this burden in front of the cameras," he explains today. "I was carrying the pain of betrayal, and the desire, despite everything, to still believe in it. I wanted to forgive, I wanted to repair. I wanted to save what could be saved. In this series and sometimes outside of it, I was judged, criticized, always harshly, while I was simply trying to save my relationship despite the unbearable pain," he adds.

The young man of Moroccan origin says he was unable to overcome this ordeal and that he then decided to definitively turn the page.

In May 2024, the businessman and Iris Mittenaere had decided to separate after four years of relationship. Today, he is trying to move forward in life. "Today, I wish neither to reopen wounds nor to point fingers. I simply ask that our private lives be respected, both mine and hers. As for me, I have moved on and I am now at peace and happy," El Glaoui concludes.
