Middle East Turmoil Disrupts Air Travel: Royal Air Maroc Suspends Flights to Qatar and UAE

Due to the conflict in the Middle East, Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has decided to suspend its flights to Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. A flight of the Moroccan airline had to turn back on Monday, shortly after the announcement of the closure of Qatari airspace.

The AT216 flight of Royal Air Maroc connecting Casablanca to Doha was forced on Monday to turn back off the Greek island of Crete, shortly after the announcement of the closure of Qatari airspace. The aircraft returned to Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca.

The AT217 flight scheduled for Tuesday, June 24 departing from Doha at 1:35 am (local time) and bound for Casablanca (7:30 am) has also been canceled, it is specified. The same applies to flights AT246 and AT247 providing the round-trip connections between Casablanca and Dubai, scheduled for Tuesday.

The Moroccan airline ensures that flights to and from Saudi Arabia are not affected by these cancellations and that Moroccan Hajj pilgrims in 2025 will be able to return to Morocco.

For the record, Qatar announced on Monday the closure of its airspace after Iran’s threat to retaliate against US bombings of its nuclear facilities. The United Arab Emirates also closed their airspace shortly after the start of the Iranian attacks.
