Melilla Mosques to Reopen with Restrictions as Spain Eases Lockdown

Starting May 11, Muslims in Melilla will be able to attend the mosques in the Spanish enclave, as part of the national deconfinement strategy recently adopted by the government.
The return to places of worship will, however, be gradual and will depend on the involvement of the faithful in the new measures introduced by the authorities, writes the newspaper Melilla Huay, which specifies that the mosques should not exceed one third of their capacity.
The situation will be difficult to manage for the hundreds of faithful who will have to show more organization and respect for safety standards, knowing that the new provisions also give them the possibility of family visits and funeral prayers.
The news was welcomed with satisfaction by the Committee of Muslims in Melila who, according to its spokesman, Mohamed El Ouariachi, has adhered to the safety instructions, avoiding all the rituals that characterize the month of Ramadan.
