Mauritania Eases Entry for Moroccan Trucks to Ensure Food Supply Amid Pandemic

The Mauritanian Ministry of Commerce and Tourism, despite the measures taken to limit the spread of the coronavirus, indicated on Thursday that "all facilities have been granted to Moroccan truck drivers." The aim is to allow them to ensure "the supply of the local market with goods and foodstuffs under good conditions".
The Secretary General of the Mauritanian Ministry of Commerce and Tourism, Ahmed Salem Ould Bouhdah, gave all guarantees to Hamid Chabar, the Moroccan Ambassador in Nouakchott. This was during the visit to the new station that "the Mauritanian authorities have set up for the benefit of Moroccan drivers to unload their goods destined for the Mauritanian market". The new space is located at the northern entrance of the capital Nouakchott, and is equipped with all the necessary facilities to ensure the comfort of these drivers, said the mission officer at the ministry.
During the visit, which is specifically aimed at "finding out about the problems faced by these drivers and working to find solutions for them, the official praised the central role that these Moroccan truck drivers play in supplying the Mauritanian market throughout the year, especially "during the holy month of Ramadan, thus allowing Mauritanians’ needs to be met at affordable prices".
Highly satisfied with these statements, the Moroccan diplomat, while welcoming the measures taken by Mauritania to fight the coronavirus, said that this visit is intended to encourage Moroccan drivers "to continue to supply the Mauritanian market with vegetables, fruits and other goods and merchandise". The trucks coming from Morocco are between 50 and 70 and this space will allow them to avoid the congestion of the market located in Nouakchott, the ambassador said before expressing his gratitude to the Mauritanian authorities for "this commendable initiative".
As for the Moroccan drivers, they expressed their satisfaction, while reiterating their availability "to respect the preventive measures taken by the Mauritanian authorities to limit the spread of the new coronavirus".
