Massive Insurance Fraud Ring Busted in Rabat: Doctor and 33 Others Face Trial

An investigation into document falsification and large-scale fraud has resulted in the dismantling of a vast network of fake medical certificates that defrauded insurance companies in Rabat. A doctor is among the arrested and prosecuted individuals.

The Court of First Instance in Rabat is handling one of the largest cases of medical certificate falsification ever revealed in Morocco. Thanks to a thorough investigation conducted over several weeks, a vast network of fake medical certificates that defrauded insurance companies has been dismantled in Rabat. Its modus operandi consisted of using falsified medical certificates, signed in the name of an accomplice doctor, to create false records of road accidents, in order to "wrongfully claim" substantial compensation from insurance companies, according to Assabah.

After identifying the beneficiaries of these false certificates and the brokerage networks involved in creating fraudulent files, the investigators managed to apprehend the main intermediary, presented as the mastermind of the network. He is charged with fraud and complicity in forgery. In total, 34 people find themselves in the dock. The main accused is being prosecuted for fraud, manufacturing and use of fake medical certificates, making false statements, and exploiting these forged documents, while the other defendants, mostly healthcare personnel, employees and experienced intermediaries, are being prosecuted for participation and complicity.

Responding favorably to a request from the defense team, the correctional judge in charge of flagrante delicto cases at the Court of First Instance in Rabat postponed the first hearing last Thursday. The defense team has indeed requested a delay to consult all the case documents and the statements of the accused. The next hearing has been set for August 14, it is specified.
