Tangier Court Sentences French Duo in High-Profile Villa Joséphine Fraud Case

The court of first instance in Tangier has handed down lengthy prison sentences to two French nationals involved in a case of falsification of real estate documents related to the "Villa Joséphine" property, one of the prestigious tourist sites in the city.

Seized with a complaint filed by the management company of the "Villa Joséphine", denouncing the attempt of two French nationals to appropriate the property through falsifications, the court of first instance in Tangier has just rendered a judgment. The criminal chamber has sentenced Jean B. and Laura V. to five years in prison each and a fine of 5,000 dirhams per person, with joint liability for court costs. They were both prosecuted for forgery and use of forged documents, fraud and complicity, in connection with an attempt to appropriate the property using forged documents and illegally operating it. They are also accused of having deceived other parties by claiming to be the owners.

The court also ordered the destruction of the forged documents and all the resulting procedures, as well as the maintenance of the arrest warrant issued against Jean. The latter is still on the run. The judicial control measures against Laura V., including the confiscation of her passport and the prohibition to leave the national territory, have been maintained. On the civil side, the court granted a symbolic compensation of one dirham to the owner company, as a sign of the moral damage suffered.
