Massive 7-Foot Catfish Caught in Paris Seine, Astonishing Onlookers and Comedian Jamel Debbouze

Franco-Moroccan comedian and actor Jamel Debbouze expressed his astonishment at an incredible scene on May 1st in Paris, right in the city center.

While walking along the banks of the Seine, in the 4th arrondissement of Paris, near the Île Saint-Louis, Jamel Debbouze "was attracted by a small crowd around a fisherman trying to control a big fish at the end of the line: a huge catfish," reports Le Parisien. The fisherman is Bill François, a biophysicist, naturalist, and writer. He was capturing the river giant for the purposes of a scientific study. According to him, the beast measures "at least 2.10 meters".

Stunned, Jamel, witness to the scene, immortalizes this rare moment. "Paname, it’s insane! It’s really incredible," he says. The comedian took the opportunity to chat with biophysicist Bill François. The latter told him that he has been following the beast since last year. He promised to name the catfish after Jamel if it doesn’t already have a name: "We’ll be able to know how much it has grown compared to last year. It’s a fish I’m tracking, and we usually give them names. This one, if it doesn’t have a name yet, will have yours." Jamel posts the images on his Instagram account. The video has gone viral.

"It’s currently the largest inhabitant of the Seine. It’s recognizable notably by its whiskers, which it sports like its other cousins in the catfish family. Bill François, biophysicist, naturalist, and writer introduces us to the catfish," writes Geo magazine in a post on X.
