Massive Drug Bust: 29 Tons of Cocaine and Hashish Seized in Spanish Port

The Civil Guard and the Spanish police have dismantled two major cocaine and hashish trafficking networks from Tangier, Morocco, on the Andalusian coast. The drugs were hidden in tomato shipments. In total, 13 tons of hashish and 16 tons of cocaine were seized.

The two criminal networks are accused of having introduced large quantities of cocaine and hashish into Spain through the port of Algeciras (Cadiz). The investigation, opened by the Civil Guard and the National Police in February 2021, resulted in the seizure of 13 tons of hashish and 16 tons of cocaine in Andalusia, reports La Voz Digital.

Customs agents and police officers at the ports of Tangier (Morocco) and Algeciras (Cadiz), involved in this trafficking, were arrested. They facilitated the entry of huge quantities of hashish from Morocco to Spain. According to the investigators, more than 150 tons of hashish have been transported. As for the cocaine, it is transported from Colombia and Costa Rica, hidden in tomatoes, watermelons or melons.

This operation led to the dismantling of the largest criminal organization based in Campo de Gibraltar. In total, 61 people were arrested and 83,683 kilos of hashish, 9,768 kilos of cocaine and 28 kilos of marijuana were seized. The network is also accused of having introduced 67,200 kilos of hashish and 6,200 kilos of cocaine additional into Spain.

The searches carried out also led to the seizure of five firearms, nine trucks, seven refrigerated trailers, 27 cars, 18 luxury watches, a diamond, ten precious stones, 26 real estate assets valued at more than three million euros and 17 vehicles worth more than 400,000 euros.
