Massive Delays at Ceuta-Morocco Border as Vacationers Return to Europe

Long queues were recorded on Saturday on the Moroccan side of the Tarajal border. Moroccans from Europe, at the end of their holidays in the kingdom, are waiting to cross the border to return to their countries of residence as part of the return phase of the Marhaba Operation.
The slowness of administrative procedures has caused these queues on the Moroccan side of the Tarajal border. In addition to the Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) returning to Europe as part of the return phase of the Marhaba Operation, some residents of Ceuta who spent the day in Morocco are also waiting to return home. "We have barely moved 500 meters in half an hour," complains one of them to Ceuta Actualidad.
The residents of the autonomous city do not understand this slowness at the border, while the five access lanes are open. At the same time, they note that the vehicles of MREs, with foreign registration, pass more quickly and easily.
"We did not expect this slowdown on the part of Morocco to affect the residents of the city," explained Víctor Ríos, director general of civil protection, stressing that the government’s objective was to control the inflow to avoid traffic jams at the border.
