Massive $1.5 Billion Wind Farm to Power Blockchain Servers in Dakhla, Morocco

The American startup Soluna Technologies and AM WIND plan to build a 900 MW wind farm in Dakhla, on an area of 11,313 hectares, to power servers dedicated to blockchain technologies. An initial investment of 15 billion dirhams will be dedicated to the project.
Carried for three years by Souluna Technologies and AM WIND’s HARMATTAN program, this project, which will become a reality in the next six years and will provide computing capacity dedicated to powering the international blockchain network, has the capacity to produce more than 400 highly skilled direct jobs, said John Belizaire, CEO of Soulana Technologies, during a webinar on the progress of the Soulana AM Wind project in Dakhla. The startup plans to create a local center of excellence developing expertise in blockchain technology, open to a rapidly growing global market, reports Map.
Regarding the progress of the project, Mr. Belizaire indicated that the company has devoted the last three years to the study and research phases, stressing that "these different stages have required a total investment of $10 million" and "after the completion of the environmental studies, we will start the financing and pre-construction activities in mid-2021".
These infrastructures will power the global blockchain network, said the CEO of Souluna Technologies, adding that "consultations have been held with the central bank and the Foreign Exchange Office around our financial organization and our hierarchical management system, to clarify that it is in compliance with the legislation in force in Morocco and international legislation".
The HARMATTAN project of Souluna Technologies and AM WIND has made a commitment in favor of 100% green energy and its development, to support the local economy, education and training, to create job opportunities and clean energy. This will allow Morocco to become a world champion of renewable energy while also becoming a true technological hub.
