Marvel Chief Backs ’Batgirl’ Directors After Warner Bros. Cancellation

After Warner Bros’ cancellation of the Batgirl film, the Belgian-Moroccan directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are receiving an avalanche of support.
On his Instagram, Adil El Arbi posted a message from the President of Marvel Studios who expressed his support to him after Warner Bros’ cancellation of the Batgirl film. "My friends, I had to reach out and let you know that we are all thinking of you two. Because of the wonderful news about the wedding (congratulations!) And the disappointing news about "Batgirl". I’m so proud of you guys for all the incredible work you’re doing and of course especially "Ms. Marvel"! I can’t wait to see what’s next for you. I hope to see you both soon," writes Kevin Feige. The two Belgian-Moroccans Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah directed two episodes of the Ms. Marvel series.
In turn, Adil El Arbi expressed his gratitude to all those who sent them messages of support. "Thank you for all the messages of support from around the world. Shoutout to directors Edgar Wright and James Gunn, your kind words and experience mean a lot and help us get through this difficult time," he writes on his Instagram page.
The two co-directors of Batgirl were in Morocco to celebrate Adil El Arbi’s marriage to Belgian-Moroccan journalist Loubna Khalkhali when they learned of the cancellation of the DC Batgirl, which stars American actress Leslie Grace. A cancellation justified by a strategic change concerning the DC Comics and HBO Max universe. In total, $90 million was invested in this project.
