Marseille in Crisis: Moroccan Nasser Larguet Takes Helm as Interim Coach After Villas-Boas Exit

Olympique de Marseille is in a deep existential crisis and the departure of coach André Villas-Boas further darkens the picture. Pending the appointment of another coach, the management of the team has been entrusted to the Moroccan technician Nasser Larguet.

Portuguese André Villas-Boas said he resigned to express his disagreement with the club’s current policy. It is therefore in a press conference that the latter draws a line under his collaboration with the Phocaean club. "I want nothing from OM. I don’t want the money," he said to the press.

At the heart of the rift between the technician and the club’s management is the transfer of a player he did not validate. This is the midfielder Olivier Ntcham, loaned to the club with a purchase option, for around 5 million euros.

The players will have to evolve under the orders of the Moroccan Nasser Larguet, accompanied by Philippe Anziani. Former goalkeeping coach Laurent Spinosi has been called in to help. This is the first time that Nasser Larguet, in his capacity as sports director, finds himself at such an advanced level of coaching.

The man had spent five years at the FRMF, but a decision by the body made him leave in 2019. He would have failed the mission entrusted to him: to succeed in training the young national teams capable of undertaking African journeys. It was last June that the Moroccan technician was appointed technical director of Olympique de Marseille.
