According to Madar, several professionals report an unusual decline in bookings compared to previous years. The heat hitting the city and the reduced presence of Moroccans living abroad are among the reasons cited.

MREs traditionally represented a significant share of summer clientele. Their decline is directly felt by venues, caterers, decorators and the many professions that depend on family celebrations.

The continued rise in wedding costs is also pushing couples to reconsider their plans. Some now prefer shorter receptions, reduce the number of guests or abandon several traditional stages to limit expenses.

Marrakech: the price of weddings changes traditions

This shift is affecting practices that have long characterized Marrakech weddings, such as henna evenings, family gatherings organized over several days, or the groom’s horseback procession.

Small professionals also denounce the dominance of large companies offering complete packages including the venue, meal, decoration and all services. These offers reduce their chances of obtaining separate contracts.

Activity has not completely disappeared, but it remains weak for a period usually considered high season. Some professionals now even observe greater demand during school holidays spread throughout the year than at the height of summer.
