Rising Costs Force Moroccans to Scale Back Wedding Celebrations

The high costs of caterers this summer are pushing Moroccan families to review their wedding budgets downward and opt for sober celebrations with a limited guest list. The culprit is the surge in food, red meat, poultry and fish prices.
The general rise in prices is forcing Moroccans to review their wedding celebration habits. Pompous weddings are now giving way to sober weddings, an option that does not suit caterers. "We have seen an unprecedented rise in food prices, where poultry prices have reached 26 dirhams per kilogram, while red meat prices have climbed to 115 dirhams per kilogram," said a Casablanca caterer to Kech24.
He added: "Fish prices have also increased considerably due to high demand in the summer, especially shrimp, as well as the prices of seasonal fruits and other supplies used in celebrations. All these factors have led to a significant increase in wedding costs, which has resulted in a decrease in the demand for wedding celebrations so far. We hope the situation will improve soon and that weddings will be celebrated as before."
