Marrakech Tourism Rebounds After Devastating Earthquake, Minister Reports

Fatim-Zahra Ammor, Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, stated that tourism activity has resumed its normal pace in Marrakech after the September 8 earthquake.
During a visit to Marrakech and the Al Haouz region affected by the 6.8 magnitude earthquake to assess the situation of tourist establishments and attraction sites after the disaster, Fatim-Zahra Ammor made encouraging observations. "Tourism activity in Marrakech has resumed a normal pace. Walking around Marrakech, I am optimistic. The Medina is still as charming, life has resumed its normal course and tourists are walking the streets of the ochre city," said the minister in a post on Instagram.
Ammor visited iconic places such as Jemaa El Fna square, the Semmarine souk and the Spice Square. During this visit, the minister met with residents and professionals in the region, as tourism and crafts are the key sectors in the region. "I was also very impressed by the resilience of the tourist establishments in Al Haouz. Despite the magnitude, many have withstood the earthquake test and have started to repair the contained damage," she rejoiced in another post.
And she added: "As the Ministry of Tourism, we want to ensure that professionals resume their activities as soon as possible, especially considering the central role of tourism for many other sectors in the region. [...] We want to reassure our partners and future tourists about the stable situation in Marrakech."
