Marrakech Tightens COVID-19 Restrictions, Limits Market Hours and Closes Alcohol Outlets

Despite the measures put in place by the Ministry of the Interior, some Moroccans continue to violate the state of health emergency aimed at curbing the coronavirus epidemic, at the risk of exposing the country to the proliferation of infectious outbreaks.
The anarchy reigning in the neighborhood shopping centers and popular markets has forced the Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region to reduce their opening hours to 6 hours, authorizing their opening from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Any derogation from these new provisions will expose offenders (establishments and individuals) to the sanctions provided for by the regulations in force, the statement dated March 29 said.
In addition, the prefectural decree ordered the closure, until further notice, of all alcohol outlets located in the ochre city since Tuesday, March 31. Most of the people who violated the state of emergency had been arrested in an advanced state of intoxication, reports the site rue20.
