Marrakech Taxi Drivers Defy Fare Regulations, Sparking Public Outcry

The Moroccan Forum for Human Rights in the Marrakech-Safi region persists in denouncing the abusive practices of grand taxi drivers at the Bab Doukkala station in Marrakech.
Despite previous alerts and findings by the authorities, these transport professionals continue to arbitrarily raise their fares, much to the dismay of users, the association complains.
In a new letter addressed to the Wali of the region, the organization recalls that the drivers in question openly defy the provincial decision setting the prices. The visit of a joint commission on June 2 last was apparently not enough to curb this phenomenon and even tends to aggravate it, indicates Kech24.
The journeys between Marrakech and certain neighboring municipalities, such as Ouled Hassoun or Hadd Ras El Ain, are particularly affected by these illegal increases. Passengers thus find themselves paying much higher sums than those authorized, without any valid justification.
The Moroccan Forum for Human Rights deplores the inaction of the provincial services in the face of this situation.
