Marrakech Street Art Vandalized: Madinaty Project Murals Defaced on Hassan II Avenue

Unidentified individuals have vandalized, on Hassan II Avenue in Marrakech, artist paintings painted on the wall of a public transportation company. This has caused outrage from the "Ouled Elkheir" association, the initiator of the Madinaty project.
Another act of vandalism in Marrakech. Artist works were vandalized on June 25th, reports Hespress. Murals that were part of the Madinaty project of the "Ouled Elkheir" association were "victims of a strong charge of hatred and negative energy for those who engaged in this criminal act," lamented Ibtisam Hammouche, a member of this association. However, she does not give in to discouragement. This act of vandalism "will not stop the constructive work" and the artistic culture that this association seeks to convey to the public, she said.
"Sabotaging these murals is a behavior that shows the lack of aesthetic education and the weakness of moral values," denounced the artist Hassan Moumen. According to him, who recently supervised the realization of the mural painting "Queen Dihya" (La Kahina) in a street of Ait Ourir in the province of Al Haouz, visual art has not yet found its place among Moroccans. He also mentions the importance of murals in a society: "Sketching murals aims to educate Moroccans... and to develop their understanding of artistic symbols and aesthetic expression".
Abdellatif Al-Barmaki, president of the "Ouled Elkheir" association, said that the vandalized works were carried out after three days of work. An association from Taroudant, the elected and local community, and the railway office accompanied the initiative.
