Marrakech Restricts Travel Ahead of Eid al-Fitr to Curb COVID-19 Spread

Fearing a surge in coronavirus cases, the authorities in Marrakech have decided, just a few days before Eid al-Fitr, to seal off the main exits of the ochre city to prevent crowds from moving towards this major tourist center of the kingdom.
Police checkpoints have been set up at the entrances and exits of the city of Marrakech, preventing citizens from other regions who do not have travel permits from entering the urban area. These measures to curb the risk of the spread of the coronavirus and avoid a surge in cases of contamination, reports the local site kech24.
While the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs has not yet announced the date of Eid al-Fitr in Morocco, the astronomer, Hicham El Aissaoui, confides that this year the holy month of Ramadan will last 29 days, announcing this celebration for Thursday, May 13.
