Marrakech Real Estate Prices Surge 20% as Expats and French Buyers Flock to Market

Real estate prices in Marrakech have increased by an average of 20% last summer. This is due to the strong demand from Moroccans living abroad (MREs) and foreigners, especially the French.
The pronounced interest of Moroccans living abroad (MREs), especially in France and the Netherlands, in real estate in Marrakech (studios, apartments and villas), has led to a sharp rise in prices. Prices of ordinary housing have reached more than 400,000 dirhams, even in rural areas.
Similarly, foreigners, particularly the French, have set their sights on real estate in the ochre city and some buyers from the Hexagon have transformed their apartments, villas and riads into tourist accommodation establishments.
According to industry professionals, the organization of the 2030 World Cup by Morocco, jointly with Spain and Portugal, explains this increased interest of MREs and the French in real estate in Marrakech, particularly those near the city’s stadium which should host matches of the competition.
