Marrakech Plans Eastern Bypass Highway to Ease Traffic Congestion

A definition study for the construction of a bypass highway to the east of Marrakech has just been launched by the Regional Directorate of Equipment, Transport and Logistics of Marrakech-Safi.
This project, which is the subject of a 3.2 million dirham contract awarded to the Conseil Ingénierie et Développement (CID) consulting firm, aims to improve traffic flow around the ochre city and enhance road connections to the north of the country.
The commissioned study reveals the need to create this bypass to cope with the growth of traffic around Marrakech. This new road link will connect several key national roads, including the N8 leading to Béni-Mellal, the N9 towards Ouarzazate, and the N7 in the direction of Taroudant. The provincial road RP2017, which serves the Ourika Valley, will also be connected to this bypass.
By connecting the A3 motorway to the N7, this new motorway infrastructure will significantly reduce distances and travel times for users. Vehicles in transit will be able to bypass the city center of Marrakech, avoiding the traffic jams that often paralyze circulation.
Furthermore, the eastern bypass of Marrakech will play a very important role in improving road links to the north of Morocco. By intercepting the future Marrakech-Béni Mellal motorway, it will allow vehicles coming from the north to directly reach cities like Kelaât Sraghna or Béni Mellal, without having to cross Marrakech.
