Marrakech Named Top Global Food Destination for 2025 by Mastercard Report

The latest report from Mastercard Economics Institute (MEI) ranks the city of Marrakech among the best gastronomic destinations in the world for 2025.
The ochre city finds itself alongside metropolises like Istanbul, Doha or Dubai in this global ranking that highlights the growing importance of gastronomic tourism in travel plans. With its culinary richness, traditional dishes, spicy aromas and the unique atmosphere of its dining venues, Marrakech is attracting more and more tourists.
"This ranking is a huge source of pride for us. It rewards our efforts to preserve Marrakech’s culinary traditions and ensure an authentic experience for visitors," rejoices the president of the New Era association, which brings together restaurateurs from Jamaâ El-Fna.
"Marrakech is now an open-air restaurant, a global stage for Moroccan cuisine. Being recognized by an institution like Mastercard is a true honor," he confides to the LE360 website. However, the professional calls for work to maintain standards in terms of quality and rigor. "Obtaining first place is one thing, keeping it is another. It is imperative to redouble our efforts in terms of hygiene, quality of service and fidelity to our culinary identity," he urged.
Beyond cuisine, the Mastercard Economics Institute report on the economy also highlights factors impacting global tourist flows such as the development of sustainable tourism, the quest for well-being through health care, or the organization of major sporting events.
