In Marrakech, a 10 million dirham scam

The scammers had devised a complex scenario to manipulate their target. By playing on the lure of profit, they convinced this well-known investor to pay considerable sums in several installments. The money was officially supposed to be used to acquire "red mercury", a fictitious material but presented by the criminals as a product capable of locating buried treasures or reselling at a high price to buyers in the Gulf. The victim eventually realized the deception and filed a complaint with the competent authorities.

A police trap to bring down the head of the network

Seized of the case, the Marrakech public prosecutor’s office ordered the opening of a preliminary investigation entrusted to the judicial police. The investigations quickly made it possible to identify the suspects and set up an ambush. This device led to the arrest of a member of the gang, whose arrest then made it possible to trace the chain and identify the other accomplices involved in this criminal enterprise targeting wealthy profiles.

The main suspect had his custody extended to allow the investigators to gather all the evidence. He is to be brought before the public prosecutor’s office this Friday morning to answer for his actions, a step that marks the dismantling of this high-level fraud network.
