Marrakech-Menara Ranks 2nd Best Regional Airport in Africa, Skytrax Awards Reveal

The Marrakech-Menara airport was ranked the second best regional airport in Africa by the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2023. The ranking was dominated by Durban-King Shaka in South Africa, closely followed by Marrakech-Menara, which thus overtook Kigali in Rwanda for second place.

The annual Skytrax World Airport Awards 2023 ranking for "regional airports" has been unveiled, and the results are not really surprising, reports Air Journal. Nagoya-Centrair in Japan tops the global ranking, followed by Düsseldorf in Germany and Haikou-Meiland in China. The United States also performed well with Houston-Hobby and Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky in the Top 10.

But it is the European airports that have attracted the most attention, with Düsseldorf and Hamburg at the top of the ranking, closely followed by Paris-Orly, Cologne-Bonn and London-City. Budapest in Hungary, Malaga, Malta, Porto and Alicante also obtained good places in the ranking.

In Africa, Durban-King Shaka was elected best regional airport, ahead of Marrakech-Menara and Kigali in Rwanda. South Africa also performed well with Bloemfontein, Port Elizabeth and East London.

Finally, the ranking also revealed that Papeete-Faa’a was ranked ninth in the category of best regional airports in Australia/Pacific.

While some airports are used to being at the top of the ranking, this year has been marked by the rise of Asian airports, confirming the trend of recent years.
