Morocco Unveils $1.5 Billion Airport Expansion Plan to Boost Tourism and Economy

The Board of Directors of the National Airports Office (ONDA) met in an ordinary session to discuss the project to build terminals in several airports in Morocco, in order to rationalize operating costs for ONDA and its partners.
At the opening of the work of this session, Mohammed Abdeljalil, Minister of Transport and Logistics, recalled the importance of the air transport sector and its impact on the economic and social development of our country, particularly on tourism. Then, Habiba Laklalech, CEO of ONDA, presented the strategic plan "Envol 2025", reports Le Matin.
It is an investment program aimed at launching construction projects for new terminals at the airports of Tétouan, Marrakech, Tangier, and Agadir, the development of aeronautical infrastructures of several airports, and the realization of programming studies to increase the capacity of the Mohammed V and Dakhla airports. These are works that will be financed by the 2023 budget. The office also aims to build new control towers, modernize air navigation equipment, and contribute to improving the living conditions of its staff.
The year 2022 allowed Moroccan airports to recover a large part of their passengers with an estimated rate of 91% from February 7, 2022. ONDA hopes for strong air traffic activity for 2023 and the construction of new terminals in four of the busiest airports in Morocco will contribute greatly to this.
