Marrakech Mayor and Deputy Face Trial for COP22 Contract Fraud

Prosecuted for the misappropriation of public funds, the mayor of the city of Marrakech, Larbi Belkaid, and his first deputy, Younes Benslimane, were referred to the investigating judge by the Attorney General at the Court of Appeal.
The decision followed the results of the investigation, conducted by the National Brigade of the Judicial Police of Casablanca, following complaints received in connection with the irregularities observed during the awarding of COP 22 contracts.
The case, likely to provoke twists and turns, will be followed, according to the site rue20, by Youssef Zitouni, investigating judge in charge of financial crimes at the Court of Appeal of Marrakech.
A member of the Party of Justice and Development, the mayor of the ochre city, known for his megalomania, multiplies management errors, favoring the renovation of the town hall headquarters over the city’s priorities.
