Marrakech’s Long-Awaited Tramway: A Race Against Time for 2030 World Cup

Some Marrakchis are wondering what is blocking the realization of this tramway project, which is intended to modernize transportation and streamline traffic in the ochre city, especially during major events or holiday periods.
Unlike metropolises like Casablanca and Rabat, which have a tramway network, Marrakech has been slow to acquire this modern transportation system. According to some Marrakchis, the tramway announced for years has remained at the project stage.
The inhabitants of the ochre city are calling for the relaunch of this project, in anticipation of the 2030 World Cup that Morocco will jointly organize with Spain and Portugal, in order to ensure comfortable and smooth travel for visitors and residents during this global event.
