Marrakech Hosts Global Golf Tourism Summit, Aims to Boost Visitor Numbers

Golf capital, the city of Marrakech intends to reap the benefits for the 2019 edition of the Golf travel market (IGTM) which it has been hosting since the beginning of this week. For four days that this meeting of golfers will last, the ochre city intends to play its part to attract even more tourists.
Thanks to the 40,000 golf tourists positioned on this event and the more than 9.5 million euros in business it generates, the Golf Show, jointly organized by the ONMT, the FRMG and Reed exhibition, brings together more than 1,200 golf tourism professionals from around the world, including 375 tour operators for four days of networking and negotiation.
For L’économiste, this occasion allows to discover the latest innovations in golf and to detect the new trends, not to mention the B to B meetings between tour operators and Moroccan specialists. To this end, the same media recalls, the CRT of Marrakech, the local hoteliers and the ARAVMS have all mobilized for the success of this annual event.
In this regard, the President of the Regional Tourism Council of Marrakech, Hamid Bentahar, admits that as a unique opportunity, the city as well as all the professionals and actors in the tourism sector are betting on this event to offer all the assets and offers available in the ochre city.
Revealing these assets, the president of the CRT mentions the infrastructures as well as the 13 operational greens in the city of Marrakech.
To these are added the 18 holes in Essaouira and the wastewater treatment and reuse station of the Radeema to water these golf courses.
According to the same source, it is a heavy investment since a green that costs between 80 and 100 million DH can be quickly profitable if we know how to go about it.
According to a specialized professional, the golfer is a high-end customer who is equivalent to 5 traditional tourists. "The traditional tourist spends an average of 1,000 euros, while the golfer spends 4 times more and makes three to four trips per year," he adds.
