Marrakech Halts Construction Near Stadium Ahead of Major Soccer Events

As part of the preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN Morocco 2025) and the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal, the Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region has banned the issuance of any new building permits around the Grand Stade de Marrakech.
Bad news for investors. In a correspondence addressed to the Municipal Council of Oued Sidi Brahim in Marrakech, the Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region places the environment of the Marrakech Stadium under in-depth study, temporarily prohibiting the issuance of any new building permits in this area, pending the completion of the stadium’s rehabilitation plan and its environment in view of the major sporting events to come, particularly the 2025 CAN and the 2030 World Cup.
On Thursday, February 6, 2025, this issue was the subject of discussions during the meeting of the Municipal Council of Oued Sidi Brahim. It emerges that the various services concerned are preparing to adopt a specific sectoral development plan for the aforementioned area. Thus, the issuance of all permits relating to any future project or construction will only resume after the study and development of this development plan. This operation will involve the participation of several parties, including the urban planning department of the Wilaya of the Marrakech-Safi region, the urban authority of Marrakech, the municipality of Oued Sidi Brahim, as well as several other stakeholders.
