Marrakech Expands COVID-19 Treatment Capacity with New Field Hospital

The Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region, governor of the prefecture of Marrakech, Karim Kassi-Lahlou, visited the Ibn Tofail hospital in Marrakech on Saturday, August 22, to inquire about the progress of the work on the installation of a marquee, where people infected with Covid-19 will be taken care of.
It was decided to rationalize the hospital structures of Marrakech and to restructure the process of caring for people infected with Covid-19, the Minister of Health, Khalid Ait Taleb, said on Wednesday.
The aim is to relieve the pressure on the other hospital structures in the city. Thus, the Ibn Tofail hospital will have its marquee set up as a field hospital where Covid-19 cases will be taken care of. Its additional capacity is 100 beds equipped with oxygen pipelines and dedicated to pre-resuscitation. A building belonging to this hospital will also be upgraded and dedicated to the care of Covid-19 cases.
The Ibn Zohr (Mamounia) hospital will also benefit from extension work. Fully equipped with oxygen pipelines, it will be dedicated solely to suspected cases and Covid-19 screening, while the Al Antaki hospital will be upgraded for the care of patients admitted to intensive care (first degree).
The Arrazi hospital, part of the Mohammed VI University Hospital, will receive the critical cases. The Benguérir field hospital, with its extension work, will see its bed capacity increase from the current 360 beds to 650 beds.
