Marrakech Doctor Denied Bail in Patient Rape Case, Faces 10-Year Sentence

The investigating judge at the Court of Appeal of Marrakech refused to grant provisional release to a doctor, prosecuted for his alleged involvement in the rape of a patient. He was remanded in custody, pending the completion of the judicial investigation.
The suspect, a specialist in trauma-orthopedics, is accused of having tried to sexually abuse a patient. This offense, according to Article 485 of the Penal Code, is punishable by a prison sentence of 5 to 10 years.
Initially, a 22-year-old student had filed a complaint against the doctor, accusing him of attempted rape in his office, located in the Gueliz district of Marrakech.
Convinced by the latter to undergo a massage session, the young patient had undressed, before realizing that the practitioner’s gestures, who was also completely undressed, had turned into sexual touching.
Although she presented an audio recording where the doctor asked her to resume the care with the promise not to touch her, the site Alyaoum24 suggests that the plaintiff eventually gave up prosecuting her aggressor.
