Marrakech Culinary Museum Named Among Time's Top Global Destinations for 2024

According to the ranking of a prestigious American magazine, a Moroccan museum is among the best global tourist destinations to visit this year.

Time places the Moroccan Culinary Arts Museum in Marrakech on its list of the 50 places to visit this year (The World’s Greatest Places of 2024). "Located in the heart of the lively old city of Marrakech, the Moroccan Culinary Arts Museum is not only a showcase of Moorish architecture, but also a place dedicated to preserving the country’s culinary heritage," describes the prestigious American magazine. After opening and closing due to the pandemic and last year’s earthquake, it reopened in June." The visitor who enters the renovated 5,000-square-meter riad escapes the heat and noise of the narrow alleys of the medina to find himself in an 18th-century palace decorated with mosaics, sculpted plaster and hand-painted cedar ceilings.

"Here, they discover traditional tableware and decor, cooking techniques like hand-rolling couscous and preparing dishes ranging from tafarnout (flatbread) to the delicious kaab lghzal (gazelle horns), an almond-filled pastry served during the tea ceremony," the publication continues. Not to mention highlighting the rooftop restaurant that serves lunch, as well as coffee, tea and pastries with a panoramic view of the old city and the 12th-century Koutoubia Mosque, as well as the shop where you can buy traditional kitchen utensils and spices, including ras el hanout, and the modern cooking studio. The latter offers cooking classes with a dada, or traditional cook, demonstrating the techniques behind chicken tagine and zaalouk, a cooked eggplant and tomato salad.

The list published by Time last year featured the 50 best tourist cities to visit. The magazine has decided this year to explore "even more numerous and specific establishments that stand out in their field and in the world."
