Marrakech Cracks Down on Taxi Overcharging Amid Tourism Rebound

Following complaints about the rise in prices charged by some taxi drivers in Marrakech, the authorities have just launched a control campaign. Sanctions are planned!
Launched since the beginning of this week, this campaign aims to crack down on offenses committed in this sector, reports Al Akhbar, which specifies that it follows the checks of a commission on the complaints of tourists and residents.
Thus, some drivers in the ochre city take advantage of the return of tourists to make up for the losses they suffered during the Covid-19 pandemic, by blocking the meter and increasing the prices of trips.
These offenders have been sanctioned by the temporary withdrawal of their licenses, the newspaper said, adding that a large whistleblowing system has been set up to inquire about the excesses committed by taxi drivers.
The members of this commission also urged users to notify the relevant services if a taxi driver refuses to operate the meter, favors foreign tourists over locals or violates the regulations in force.
