Morocco Expands Fuel Subsidy Program to Include Taxi Drivers Amid Rising Prices

The Moroccan government has decided to revise its support scheme for transporters and vehicle owners, now including drivers of small and large taxis, to mitigate the effects of rising fuel prices.
Thus, the vehicle owner in this category who benefits from a subsidy of 2,200 dirhams for large taxis and 1,600 dirhams for small taxis, must undertake to share this aid to the extent of the expenses borne by the driver(s) and himself.
In total, three changes have been made to the support platform and concern this category of beneficiaries. The first commitment concerns taxi operators who will have to declare on their honor that they bear the entire cost of fuel alone.
The second commitment consists of a sworn statement, on the part of the taxi operator, who partially bears the fuel-related costs, to share the amount of the subsidy or pro rata of the contribution with the drivers of the vehicles, and this in proportion to the costs borne by each of the parties.
The third commitment concerns, for its part, the taxi operators who do not assume any fuel expenses. The latter will undertake to transfer the total amount of the aid to the taxi driver(s) who have borne the fuel costs in proportion to the contribution of each of them to the fuel costs.
