Marrakech Considers Free Parking Revolution Ahead of 2030 World Cup

Members of the city council of Marrakech have asked the president to put on the agenda of the next regular session scheduled for October a single item relating to the free parking for cars and motorcycles in the city.
In a letter sent on Saturday to the president of the council, the concerned councillors explain that their approach is based on Article 40 of the organic law on local authorities and aims to improve the quality of urban services in Marrakech as a global tourist destination, in anticipation of the 2030 World Cup that Morocco will jointly organize with Spain and Portugal.
"This proposal is in line with the orientations of the Moroccan State aimed at promoting a civilized image and establishing sustainable tourist attractiveness in line with the rank of the Kingdom," the note states, stressing that the free parking will help improve the experience of domestic and international tourists visiting the ochre city. The elected officials specify that this measure would put an end to "a set of dysfunctions related to the operation of these spaces by certain guards, particularly those who operate outside the legal framework".
The free parking would put an end to the disorder and anarchy caused by the illegal parking attendants, insist the members of the council who believe that these practices are detrimental to the image of the ochre city and Morocco in general.
