Marrakech Casino Trial Delayed Again: 26 Face Charges for Illegal Gambling Operation

The 26 people prosecuted for violating the state of health emergency and setting up an unauthorized gambling venue in the case of the clandestine casino in Marrakech will have to wait again before knowing their fate. The court of first instance of the city has decided to give the lawyers time to prepare the defense of their clients.
This is the fourth time the court has postponed this trial. According to the daily Al Massae, among the defendants are French, Senegalese and Moroccans, one of whom was the subject of a nationwide arrest warrant. The defendants are said to have set up, without authorization, a venue for gambling and the sale of alcoholic beverages.
The accused were arrested in a villa located in the Gueliz district. The villa had been transformed into a clandestine casino equipped with gaming equipment and alcoholic beverages were served to customers. During the searches, the police seized a large sum of money in national currency and foreign currency, bottles of alcohol, as well as equipment used for gambling.
Following the arrests, the judicial services placed 9 individuals in custody, including two French nationals, four Senegalese employees and three Moroccans. The other defendants, who were customers of the clandestine casino, were subjected to judicial control.
