Maroc Telecom Expands into Chad with Acquisition of Tigo Mobile Operator

Maroc Telecom has concluded, in N’Djamena, the acquisition of the mobile operator Millicom Chad with its Tigo brand.
Tigo is expanding with the acquisition of Millicom Chad, which has become Millicom Tigo. According to Idriss Bachar, Chadian Minister of Posts and New Information and Communication Technologies, the steps taken to achieve this result proved successful in March 2019. Thus, all the shares held in the capital of Millicom Chad were sold to Maroc Telecom.
"On June 26, 2019, the ministry received notification of the steps related to the change of control between the two companies, thus consecrating the acquisition by the company, Al Itissalat Al Maghrib, of all the shares held by Millicom Chad, which becomes a subsidiary of the latter," said Idriss Bachar.
However, this acquisition was not concluded with ease. It had encountered pockets of resistance. Indeed, Millicom Chad workers had gone on strike at the beginning of the year. Fortunately, a consensus was found.
Furthermore, the Maroc Telecom officials have reassured the President of Chad, Idriss Déby, that they are willing to support Chad in the field of Information and Communication Technologies, during an audience he granted them.
