Marhaba 2024 Record Summer MRE Morocco Travel

Operation Marhaba is set to break records this summer. From June 15 to September 15, more than 3.5 million travelers will head to Morocco. To manage this massive transit, authorities are deploying an unprecedented human and technological system.

The 37th Spanish-Moroccan joint commission met in Tangier to finalize preparations for Operation Marhaba. This edition promises to be historic with forecasts exceeding 3.5 million passengers and 800,000 vehicles, representing a 3% increase compared to last year. The Spanish delegation, led by Virginia Barcones from Civil Protection, and Moroccan officials are pursuing a clear goal: ensure smooth traffic flow on roads, reduce waiting times at the nine Spanish ports and provide the best support for Moroccans.

To face this human tide, staffing increases by nearly 10%. In total, 31,500 people will be deployed. This exceptional network includes security forces, medical personnel, social workers, translators and Red Crescent volunteers. This large-scale plan, the result of uninterrupted cooperation since 1986, directly involves the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, the Moroccan Royal Gendarmerie and around twenty Spanish administrative bodies.

The major innovation this year lies in the integration of an unprecedented digital management system. This tool will process data in real time to cross-reference traffic conditions, port operations, weather and incidents. This technology aims to anticipate congestion during peak traffic periods. To guarantee rapid and efficient boarding, Spain and Morocco strongly recommend travelers purchase their closed tickets well in advance.
