Manchester United Crash Out of Champions League Despite Amrabat’s Strong Performance

Manchester United was eliminated from the Champions League following a 1-0 defeat against Bayern Munich at Old Trafford. This surprise elimination, however, allowed to see the best of Moroccan player Sofyan Amrabat.
A goal by Kingsley Coman in the 70th minute was decisive, relegating United not only out of the Champions League but also out of all European competitions. This result placed the Red Devils in last place in Group A. A humiliation for such a club.
In the game, the team led by Erik ten Hag held the ball 40% of the time against 60% for Bayern. Manchester United managed only one shot on target out of five attempts. Bayern, more offensive, recorded 10 shots, three of which were on target. The passing statistics also reveal a large gap: 409 passes for United with a success rate of 83%, against 605 passes and an accuracy of 87% for Bayern.
The first half saw a better performance from United, but as the second half progressed, the team showed signs of fatigue and a lack of innovative ideas. Among the players, Sofyan Amrabat stood out. Lined up for the third consecutive time in a midfield trio with Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay, Amrabat shone with his involvement and precision.
"The Moroccan’s best performance with a United shirt, certainly deserving a place for Sunday’s clash at Anfield," writes the tabloid The Sun, giving him a rating of 7 out of 10, one of the best of the match.
Amrabat, on loan from Fiorentina, touched the ball 59 times, successfully completing 43 of his 45 pass attempts, an impressive rate of 96%. He also managed to deliver two of his three long balls and won his only aerial duel. He was involved in eight ground duels, winning five of them, and made one interception and five tackles.
