Malaga Port Gears Up for Annual Moroccan Diaspora Transit Operation

For a few days now, Moroccans from Europe have been allowed to embark, with or without vehicles, from the port of Malaga to Melilla as part of the Marhaba Operation.
The Port Authority has prepared to manage the significant flow of Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) who will transit through Malaga this year. The modules for Civil Protection, the Red Cross, Trasmediterránea and Baleària, as well as toilets and showers, have been renovated in the San Andrés area. A third tent has been installed this year, in addition to the two others that served last year as rest areas for travelers, waiting to board, reports Malaga Hoy.
This year, the capacities of the ships that will provide the links as part of the Marhaba Operation will be increased by 30% on high traffic days. Thus, the ships Ciudad Autónoma Melilla and Rusadir could accommodate a total of 2,920 passengers and 920 vehicles per trip. The other novelty is the Saturday departures, with time slots between 45 and 60 minutes to allow the docking and departure of the Trasmediterránea and Baleària ships that will provide these links.
Last year, 145,117 MREs and 33,920 vehicles transited through the port of Malaga. Figures that could climb this year, according to forecasts.
