Major Power Outage Hits Southern Spain, Affecting 600,000 Households

A widespread power outage throughout Spain that occurred on Saturday plunged half of Malaga into darkness for about an hour. The situation has gradually been restored.
The residents of Malaga were deprived of electricity on Saturday between 4:36 pm and 5:41 pm. The outage is due to a problem recorded on a "400,000 volt very high voltage" power grid line resulting from the connection with France and Morocco, according to sources from the Endesa company. The power was gradually restored thanks to the collaboration between Red Eléctrica Española (REE) and Endesa technicians, reports La Opinion de Malaga.

"An incident involving a seaplane created a problem on the French very high voltage network, causing the temporary disconnection of the Iberian peninsula from the rest of Europe," REE explained on its Twitter account.
In total, more than 600,000 customers in Madrid, Catalonia, Andalusia, Extremadura, Murcia, Aragon, Navarre, the Basque Country and Castile and León were without electricity, according to Endesa’s estimates, which make no mention of the number of households that may have been affected by the situation in the province of Malaga.
