Major Natural Gas Discovery Off Moroccan Coast Boosts Energy Prospects

A new natural gas reservoir has been discovered off the coast of Larache by the semi-submersible drilling platform Stena Don, which is carrying out drilling operations on two wells of the "Anchois" field for the British company, Chariot Oil & Gas.
"The Anchois-2 well was drilled safely and efficiently to a total measured depth of 2,512 meters by the Stena Don drilling platform in 381 m of water," the British company said in a statement. This drilling platform arrived on December 13, 2021 off the city of Larache, to carry out the drilling operations of two wells of the "Anchois" field, which is part of the Lixus exploration permit held 75% by Chariot Oil & Gas and 25% by the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM).
"The preliminary interpretation of the data confirms the presence of significant gas accumulations in the evaluation and exploration targets of the Anchois-2 well with a calculated net gas value totaling more than 100 meters, compared to 55 meters in the Anchois-1 discovery well," the British company points out, specifying that "high quality reservoirs have been found in all the gas sands". Adonis Pouroulis, interim CEO of the British company, says he is delighted to announce that Chariot, in addition to successfully carrying out an evaluation well operation, has made a significant gas discovery at the Anchois-2 well that exceeds our expectations. "This is a fantastic result," he says.
The manager expresses a certain optimism. "We continue to conduct more in-depth analysis of the data collected from the well. We already believe that the result will be exceptional for the company," he added, rejoicing in the fact that the Anchois project is getting closer to its goal of providing a clean transition fuel to support Morocco in its industrial and economic growth. Next step? The Stena Don platform will then move to the Anchois-1 gas discovery well to carry out re-entry operations with the aim of evaluating the integrity of the previously drilled well and, if successful, providing a future production well, the British company announces.
